Today Michael Phelps announced that he is interested in eradicating swimming suits out of the sport all together.
Michael Phelps recently lost his first major race for over four years when he lost a 200 meter free style race in Germany earlier this month. Although the 14 time Olympic champion wears a swimsuit himself, the Speedo LZR, it is not as technologically advanced as the Arena X-Glide suit worn by fellow swimming champion, Biedermann.
Swimmers from the past have complained about all sorts of other issues realted to the temperature of the swimming pool and even the color of the water. For example, Phelps could of easily commented about the swimming pool chemicals not being a the correct level or the fact that the arena does not offer enough eco friendly swimming pool solutions as other places. Is Phelps trying to cover up his mistakes by making up all of these excuses? The competitor is so use to succeeding maybe it is time that he loses one once in a while to bring him back down to earth. To see Phelps not win a single thing this year is an absolute novelty as we are so used to seeing him win so many competitions.
So instead of blaming the pool filters we have what I would consider a sore loser to be complaining about swim suits. I am not a professional swimmer but can a swimsuit makethat much of a difference in all of this?
Michael Phelps has also openly stated that they are looking forward to getting swimming back to its roots and move away from items such as swimming gear and suits. I am looking forward to facing Biedermann next summer said the eight gold medal winner.
There is no doubt that the Beijing Olympics have been an absolute success for Phelps but can he continue his good fortune at the London 2012?
